Remakes have been become a norm in films and also the private digital space.  Music label T-series is often at the forefront of recreating their classic, popular tracks from the 90s.  Remakes often cop much criticism too. Recently, Twitter was flooded with the hashtag ‘Say no to remake’.  T-Series launched a couple of remakes in the last week, with one single featuring Divya Khosla, wife of T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar.

A few days back, T-Series unveiled the remake of Falguni Pathak’s popular 90s single Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi. Recreated by Tanishk Bagchi, the song is crooned by Neha Kakkar and picturised on Divya Khosla Kumar.

20 November happened to be Divya’s birthday and it was double celebration as the Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi recreation notched up over 35 million views on YouTube.

He wasn’t even questioned, but Kumar was sporting enough to speak about the criticism against remakes.

“A lot of people criticise recreations.  He [original composer Lalit Sen] was just praising the song. I think he is the best judge.  If he says we have done a good job then the people who are criticising, shouldn’t be doing it, “ Kumar said at the event in Mumbai.

The T-Series head honcho reminded the critics that remakes are made for current generation and criticism is only limited to a few.

“We cater to a large audience, I’m happy with the kind of response we have got. I’m thankful to the audience. I’m only talking about 5-10 % people [critics]. They need to realise we are giving today’s generation the songs which were loved by the earlier generation,” explained Kumar.

Divya Khosla stepped in at this moment to further defend their remake.  “This melody [Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lage] hasn’t reached the younger generation. Music connect hearts. It brings people together. So, why spread negativity around something which brings people together,” said Divya.
