It was a battle of the ‘p’s as Pati Patni Aur Woh locked horns with the period war film Panipat on 6 December. Three days later, it is clear that which way this battle is heading.
Kartik Aryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday’s Pati Patni Aur Woh has enjoyed a good opening weekend bagging Rs33.50 crore nett, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com. Pati Patni Aur Woh opened to Rs8.50 crore nett and the film improved to Rs11.50 crore nett and Rs13.50 crore nett over the weekend..
Made at an estimated budget of Rs40 crore, Pati Patni Aur Woh is released in about 2000 screens in India.
Aryan has emerged as a bankable young actor in the last two years. He hit the Rs100 crore mark with Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and it was followed by another success in Luka Chuppi that made an impressive Rs88.50 crore nett. The latter was Aaryan’s biggest release [2100 screens]. Aaryan would hope that Pati Patni Aur Woh would surpass the lifetime domestic business of Luka Chuppi.
The other big release of the week was director Ashutosh Gowariker’s Panipat: The Great Betrayal. The historical film has received fairly positive reviews, but despite its strong content, audiences haven’t quite taken to it. After three days, Panipat has only made Rs17.50 crore nett. Made at an estimated budget of Rs90 crore, Panipat has released across 2035 screens. Distributor Reliance Entertainment would be worried over the poor opening weekend collection. Panipat has Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt in leading cast.
With Yash Raj Films’ Mardaani 2 releasing on 13 December, both Panipat and Pati Patni Aur Woh will have the week days to bolster its numbers.
