Reliance Entertainment CEO Shibashish Sarkar confirms to a portal about the new release period for Sooryavanshi and 83, respectively

Disney Hotstar announced yesterday premiering seven Hindi titles, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the year there’ll be no big theatrical releases. Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi and Kabir Khan’s 83, both backed by Reliance Entertainment, will remain theatrical releases. Sooryavanshi, that was earlier slated for March release, will now be releasing on Diwali this year, while 83, earlier scheduled to release on 10 April, 2020, will now come on Christmas, 2020.
“Both Sooryavanshi and ’83 are confirmed for Diwali and Christmas respectively. We are committed to bring both Sooryavanshi and ’83 in theaters whenever the exhibitors are open and whenever the audiences feel safe and comfortable to come back to cinemas. We feel and we hope that by Diwali and Christmas, the situation will be normal,” Reliance Entertainment CEO Shibashish Sarkar told BollywoodHungama.com.
With Sooryavanshi and 83 now eyeing Diwali and Christmas release, respectively, it will inevitably push Akshay Kumar’s Prithiviraj, produced by Yash Raj Films, and Aamir Khan-starrer Laal Singh Chaddha. Prithviraj was earlier scheduled to be released on Diwali, while Laal Singh Chaddha, backed by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, was announced as a Christmas release.
A source says, “Since there is talk of theaters opening in a month or two, they need to prepare a schedule. Naturally, film that couldn’t be releases because of the lockdown due to Covid-19 , will be be coming first. Besides, I believe Laal Singh Chaddha is still in production. “
With Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi now coming on Diwali, it is highly unlikely that the actor will release Prithviraj on the same day. Prithviraj stars Kumar and debutante actress Manushi Chhillar.
Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha was set for Christmas release. It must be recalled that Kumar’s Bachchan Pandey was initially eyeing a Christmas release, but at the request of Khan, Kumar had agreed to push his film to next year. The Coronavirus pandemic though has stalled all operations with Bachchan Pandey still to go on floors. With Laal Singh Chaddha still to be completed, expect the film to be pushed to next year.
