The portrayal of cops in cinema has often undergone severe scrutiny. But when the real draws parallel with the reel, citizens are bound to club them together. Film-maker Rohit Shetty and his action films, its cop characters trended in December when the Hyderabad police had gunned down four rape accused, Forward to 2020, and there’s another encounter making headlines. 24 hours after he was arrested in a temple from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, dreaded Uttar Pradesh gangster Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter by the Special Task Force cavalcade that was assigned to bring him back to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Dubey was arrested for plotting the murder of eight UP policeman. In their widely publicized bite/statement, the police have given their version of how the encounter happened. The image of a tumbled police van invariably evoked memories of Rohit Shetty films, which often sees logic defying stunts, tumbling cars. No soon than the image/visual of the tumbled van emerged, Twitterati had a field day mocking Uttar Pradesh police, comparing the real life action to the reel stunts in Shetty’s films.
