Kangana Ranaut had abused Swara Bhasker on the sets of Tanu Weds Manu Returns , claimed a dubious Twitter handle. Bhasker has reacted to the Tweet, but her vague reply hasn’t shed any clarity. Beyond Bollywood spoke to popular actor Navni Parihar, who played mother to Tanu [Ranaut] in the two films – Tanu Weds Manu and Tanu Weds Manu Returns .
“Nothing like this happened in my presence,” Parihar said confidently. The noted actress reminded that even if she wasn’t around but something like this doesn’t go unnoticed. “Usually, when such a incident happens, there are make-up artistes, spotboys, crew who are quick to talk about it and the word spreads around the sets. I don’t recollect anyone mentioning about such an incident to me.”
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap had appeared to be mocking at the duplicity of artistes who rake up the nepotism debate but themselves are guilty of ill behaviour towards the crew. Was Kashyap pointing fingers at Ranaut? We asked Parihar whether she was privy to any bad behaviour from Ranaut while filming the two films – Tanu Weds Manu and Tanu Weds Manu Returns .
“She was very nice. I never saw her misbehave with anyone. Forget misbehaving, I never even saw her speak to anyone in a rude tone. Never any tantrums. She is a quiet worker, very focused and hard working,” affirmed the Bani — Ishq Da Kalma [2013-2014] actor.
Parihar has nothing but fond memories of working with Ranaut.
“She was really sweet to me. We went to Lucknow for Tanu Weds Manu . It was my first day of the shoot. She had just finished her shot. We were standing around, jittery to initiate any conversation. I said “hello”. She then came up to me, greeted and spoke about seeing my [Doordarshan] show when she was a kid,” recalled Parihar.
The seasoned actress was touched by Ranaut’s warm gesture on the final day of her shoot.
“On the day of my pack up, we bid each other good bye. She turned around and asked if this is the last day of my shoot? I said yes, and then she hugged me saying “It was lovely working with you” quipped Parihar reminding that the Queen actress was always very nice and respectful towards her.
Parihar collaborated with Ranaut again for the sequel Tanu Weds Manu Returns . Both the films were successful with the sequel bagging a huge Rs148 crore nett at the box office.
Parihar has made a name for herself through marquee shows like Naya Daur, Kanoon (1993-1996) , Shekhar Kapur’s documentary drama Pradhanmantri where she essayed the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
