While Aaj Tak shows some growth and retains the second spot in Hindi news segment, India Today Television lies at the fourth spot in the English news segment

This was an exclusive or as TV Today Network called it a ‘explosive’ interview. The much awaited interview of Rhea Chakraborty drew many eyeballs, but it was not enough for Aaj Tak [Hindi] or India Today Television [English] to dismantle incumbent Republic World from the top spot.
TV Today Network’s Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai had conduced a near two-hour interview with Chakraborty- the main accused in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The interview had aired on 27 August at 7.00 pm on Aaj Tak and 9.00 pm on India Today Television. Despite being the first channel to air her interview, neither Aaj Tak nor India Today Television could grab the top spot in the latest BARC India ratings.
In the English News segment, Republic TV continued to be the undisputed leader with 7728 GTVTs (Gross Television Viewership in Thousands). India Today Television moved one place above from last week, registering 1334 GTVTs in Week 34 [22 August to 28 August] of BARC India ratings. It took the fourth spot behind CNN News18 (1399), Times Now (2777) and the undisputed leader Republic TV. It’s a jump of just over 200 GTVTs for India Today Television from the previous week.
Strangely, NDTV 24×7 also got an interview with Chakraborty that was aired at prime time, but the news channel didn’t even figure in the top 5 list.
The English News segment covers all India data, while the Hindi news segment covers all India (Urban + Rural), Rural and Urban.
Week 34 data for Hindi news [HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals] saw Republic Bharat retain the top spot with 285200 GTVTs, while Aaj Tak was second with 234191 GTVTs. India TV was third with 179488 GTVTs, followed by TV9 Bharatvarsh 148837 GTVTs and News18 India that bagged 132865 GTVTs.
Last week Aaj Tak had a viewership of 200678 GTVTs and this week its viewership in the All India segment increased by 33513 GTVTs.
In the rural category above, Aaj Tak came second with 96542 GTVTs while Republic Bharat topped the table with 114730 GTVTs.
In the urban category above, Republic Bharat saw a viewership of 170469 GTVTs while Aaj Tak had to settle for the second place with 137649 GTVTs.
While there’s growth for Aaj Tak and India Today Television, but it wasn’t enough to take the top spot in the English and Hindi news segment respectively. TV Today Network would have hoped that Rhea Chakraborty’s interview would have at least helped Aaj Tak beat Republic Bharat for the top spot. Well, it’s clear again which news channel(s) does India watch the most.
The interview and Sardesai had copped criticism on social media with even Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister Shweta Singh Kirti urging all to not watch the controversial interview. Kirti’s actor brother Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra home on 14 June.
