Each year Forbes, American business magazine, writes about estimated annual earnings of top businessmen and celebrities across the globe. Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel had hit out against Forbes India for allegedly underplaying her sister’s annual earnings. Ranaut was asked about her sister’s criticism of Forbes India at the trailer launch of Panga
“First of all, you can’t take any name or mention their [celebrities] personal information without any reliable sources. That is not good,” said Ranaut.
The Panga actress downplayed the whole issue of one’s earnings and called upon the magazine to rather highlight one’s contribution to society than personal wealth.
“If they want to make a list then they should make a list of who contributed how much to the society, and not how much they extracted from the society. We all have to take responsibility. We always keep thinking that why we celebrities are not setting new standards, even journalism should take responsibility where people think of contributing to the society and not extracting from it,” said Ranaut.
In their recently published annual list of Celebrity 100, Forbes India had placed Ranaut at 70 spot with annual earnings of Rs17.5 crore. The list here covered the earnings from the period 1 October, 2018 to 30 September, 2019. Ranaut had two films – Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Judgementall Hai Kya releasing in this period. As per a reliable source, Ranaut was supposedly paid a flat fee of Rs9 crore for Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Early this year, Ranaut also signed for the multilingual film Thalaivi. Though not confirmed, but Ranaut was rumoured to having signed a Rs 24 crore [Rs12 crore upfront and rest from profits] deal for the Jayalalithaa biopic. The actress is currently filming for Thalaivi.
Rangoli, who also manages Kangana, had come down hard on Forbes claiming that the magazine had got their information wrong.
“Yeh @forbes_india ek number ka fraud hai, I openly challenge them to prove even one celebrity income they have printed in their magazine, sab PR hai, Kangana pays more tax than her entire income mentioned in the poll… (contd)
Even Kangana doenst know how much she made in this year, only her accounts department and I know, we tell her all the details, and all that info is super confidential….(contd) @forbes_india,” tweeted Chandel.
